Media Treatment for Cell Cultures and Microorganism Growth

Media Treatment for Cell Cultures and Microorganism Growth

Proper media treatment is essential to prevent contamination and ensure optimal conditions for microorganism growth and cell culture. Below, we detail our strategy for media handling and provide recommendations based on the target microorganism.

Use of Antibiotics and Antifungals in Culture Media

At Vircell, we use specific combinations of antibiotics and antifungals depending on the type of culture:

  • Virus Culture:

    • Penicillin, streptomycin, and fungizone are added to the change medium to prevent bacterial and fungal contamination.

  • Chlamydia Culture:

    • A combination of gentamicin and fungizone is used in the change medium to ensure a contaminant-free environment.

Key Considerations

  1. Preventing Contamination: The selected antibiotics act against a broad spectrum of bacteria and fungi, ensuring the purity of the cultures.

  2. Compatibility with Microorganisms: The concentrations and types of drugs used are carefully optimized to avoid interfering with the growth and maintenance of microorganisms or cell lines.

  3. Media Preparation: It is recommended to prepare culture media under aseptic conditions and with DNase- and RNase-free equipment to ensure the integrity of the experiment.
